Man United lose in the first leg to quarter finals match up to Barcelona, after an own goal from England international.

In a match which was devoid from much excitement , Barcelona pulled away at Old Trafford and the Red Devils now have the daunting prospect of having to beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The Catalans opened up the scoring early , after a header from Suarez was deflected in by Luke Shaw giving the Catalans the lead. A lead they would never relinquish.

Manchester never seemed threatening as symbolised by the fact that the red devils failed to register a single shot on target for the first time in their champions league history.

Pogba nowhere to be seen

The midfielder who was briefly the most expensive player in the world had a dismal showing at old trafford capping a worrying dip in form. After having regained stellar form , following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, to the tune of eight goals and five assist in his first 9 games, the midfielder has failed to score or assist in his last four outings. Worse, against Barcelona he failed to make a single tackle or a single successful dribble. His influence on the game was lacking a troubling side for a player who can be so dominant. With rumours swirling about a potential departure to Real Madrid, the midfielder has done very little to help his case , providing a little more ammunition to critics that would claim he often disappears in high stakes games.

McTominay show

One player who stood out during the game was the young Scott McTominay. The 19 year old repayed Solskjaer for his trust in him by disrupting the flow of Barcelona’s attack and stamping his mark on the midfield.

Barcelona Poor

Barcelona were also uncharacteristically poor. Messi, Suarez , and coutihno provided very little in the way of threats and questions about the catalan’s defence remain.

The performance was not that which would be expected of a favourite to win the trophy and Manchester will hope for a similarly poor display at the Camp Nou they may capitalise on.
