Tottenham Hotspurs earn a critical victory at home , by defeating fellow English side Manchester City in the first leg of their champions league quarter final meeting.

The Game, their second at the newly finished Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which was believed to have cost the Tottenham Hotspurs 1bn dollars, and was finally completed after numerous delays, saw them prevail after a late strike from south Korean Striker Son Heung min. They will be heading to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg on 17th of April having conceded no away goals and knowing that should they score at Man City they may will put themselves in an ideal position to advance.

Hard Fought Victory

Tottenham had a spirited showing. An early penalty conceded after a Danny Rose handball, threatened to undo the spurs confident early showing but , Sergio Aguero the premier league top scorer had his shot stopped by Hugo Lloris

Tottenham will fervently hope their talismanic striker will not be shelved for a long time , with some key fixtures coming up and a fight for a top four place heating up.

Man City Giant Falters

The loss for Man City is only the second in 24 games. Entering this match , Man City had won 22 of its last 23. The blues have been in scintillating form , following their record breaking run in the premier league with another strong run this season where they are dueling with Liverpool at the top of the table.

The citizens will hope to regroup and perform better in the return leg where they will hope to count on Fernandihno and De Bruyne who both came back from injury.

The citizens are still in contention to succeed at what would be a groundbreaking quadruple double after winning the league cup and being in the finals of the FA Cup.

Tottenham in contention for top four heats up

This was a much needed win for Tottenham which will will be facing Man City two more times in the next three weeks (return leg in the CL and an away game in the premier league).

The Spurs find themselves in a four -way race for the last two top four slots in the premier league.

They are currently fourth with 64 points with Arsenal on 63 points , Manchester United on 61 and Chelsea on 66 with one game in hand.
